What are the most urgent topics in relation to art, media and civic society?

Which individuals and communities should we hear from?

What technologies do we need to keep track of?

Which works of art have opened up new critical discourses or brought moments of joy?

We are excited to continue M-Cult's journey as a promoter of critical approaches to media art, operating at the intersection of media, technology and society. Minna Tarkka Lectures: Open Advisory Session is an annual get-together for people who share a strong interest and expertise in the field of media arts, and media culture. Let’s discuss what is meaningful right now, and imagine what’s ahead. In doing so, let's honour the legacy of Minna Tarkka while reshaping our shared journey forward. The advisory session is the community driven prelude for the Minna Tarkka lectures taking place in early December.

WHY JOIN:

We at M-Cult believe in the power of community. As M-Cult is currently in the process of transition, the Open Advisory Session of Minna Tarkka Lectures is a catalyst for both understanding of possible future directions that we can take as a community and planning the future approaches for Minna Tarkka Lectures.

The Open Advisory Session is your opportunity to:

  • Take part in mapping critical topics and voices in the field
  • Influence the direction of M-Cult
  • Shape the history of media art in Finland
  • Celebrate the spirit of togetherness with vegan mocktails, snacks and informal conversating

ABOUT MINNA TARKKA LECTURES

During last Autumn M-Cult was pleased to launch the inaugural edition of the Minna Tarkka Lectures, a new annual initiative focusing on discussing and debating the potential of art, media, and technology to participate in and shape current and future democratic societies. These yearly lectures and workshops will celebrate the legacy of M-Cult’s founder and long-time director, Minna Tarkka (1960-2023), honouring her groundbreaking work in Finland and internationally in the fields of media and art and their intersections with social, political, and technological developments over the past 30 years.
