Projects research projects

A key research theme in 2011-12 at m-cult deals with bringing video to the landscape of open publishing by developing free media archives, and collaborative remix practices.

The research and experimentation project is based on artistic and open source practices, and informed by the use of metadata and open content models to enable collaborative production.

In 2001-2003, m-cult realized several research projects which documented practices and policies of new media art and culture in Finland, the Nordic countries and internationally.

In 2007, m-cult carried out two research commissions from the Ministry of Justice Democracy unit. The projects involved mapping of participatory democracy practices and workshops which brought together policy-makers, designers and activists to exchange views and create new insights into citizen involvement in decision-making and politics.

Finnish Information Society Development Centre TIEKE and m-cult conducted a research project on civic participation in digital television (12/2004-4/2005). The project established a dialogue between NGOs and civic groups to create models for participatory television production.
