The Kallio Archive

The Kallio archive is a hyperlocal, open media archive on the Kallio district in Eastern Central Helsinki.

The archive consists of video clips depicting the life and environment of an urban neighbourhood undergoing rapid change. Its Drupal-based web platform offers rich layers of metadata on the materials and all of the contents are made available under Creative Commons licenses to enable use and remix of the materials in various contexts.

The project kicked off in an open doors event during the Kallio Kukkii local cultural festival in May 2011.

The initial collection and development process spans 12 months and 4 seasons, and the web archive opened in April 2012.
