Maunula House is a new cultural centre located in the Maunula district of Northern Helsinki. The house opened in 2017 and its diverse activities are organised by the Helsinki City Library, the Youth Department and the Finnish Adult Education Centre in collaboration with the house’s users.
The residents of Maunula have been taking part in this collaboration since the planning and construction of the house in December 2016. Maunula House serves as the first culture and community centre in Helsinki to trial participatory budgeting. Citizens also participate in the operations of Maunula House through residents’ forums and as members of the Advisory Board.
m-cult has collaborated with Maunula House from its opening and has actively contributed to its profile of experimental, media and collaborative art.
