With the theme Online Imaginaries, m-cult invites artists to work towards a new political imagination on the internet.
The early promises of the internet - sharing, participation and freedom of expression – have faded with the current online world suffocated by surveillance and algorithmic profiling, propaganda and fake news. m-cult is delighted to present work by media artists who expose the workings of this all-embracing system and envision its different futures.
In 2019, the programme includes an artist residency with Disnovation.org followed by Network Effects, an international media art exhibition at Helsinki's new Oodi Central library in November.
Realised in context of the European Media Art Platform EMAP, the programme will be launched on March 12 at the WWW 30 club.
